The Spirits of Wilderness Road

A Hauntingly Historic Afternoon at Belle Hampton Farm

Take a step back in time for an unforgettable afternoon where legends come to life, lanterns flicker, and history surrounds us. The Annual Spirits Along the Wagon Road returns, now at Belle Hampton Farm, combining captivating storytelling with educational activities to benefit The Wilderness Road Regional Museum.

Meet the Spirits of Southwest Virginia

As the sun sets over the fields, you’ll encounter ghostly visitors from centuries ago:

• Governor James Hoge Tyler—from Virginia's gubernatorial history.

• Dr. Charles Pepper, the myth and medicine maker.

• Eleanor Howe, guardian of ancestral secrets.

• A noble Cherokee guide, honoring Native roots.

• …and other spirits whose stories still echo along the Wilderness Road.

These spirits will share dramatic, first-person stories, bringing to life the region’s triumphs, tragedies, and pivotal moments—and maybe an echo of a lingering soul.

Wagon Rides, Music, and Fall Festivities

This isn’t your typical ghost walk. Guests will ride in a mule-drawn wagon across Belle Hampton Farm’s scenic pastures, where every turn whispers history. Enjoy:

• Live period music and storytelling

• Historical games and craft activities

• Seasonal treats

• Themed photo opportunities and activities for all ages

• Raffle featuring a P. Buckley Moss Print, an antique quilt, and fresh honey

• Various vendors and much more.
