Annual Membership Meeting with Guest Speaker Bob Hill, Jr.

Join us for our Annual Membership Meeting as we gather to reflect on the past year, conduct essential Society business, and look ahead to an exciting 2026. This meeting is an opportunity for members to reconnect, hear important updates, and participate in shaping the Society’s future.

Our featured guest speaker will be Bob Hill, Jr., author of New River Mail: A Postal History of the New River Valley of Virginia. Hill’s work traces the development of early postal routes, the dedication of local postmasters, and the experiences of ordinary citizens who relied on the mail to stay connected long before telephones and digital communication. His presentation will provide a fascinating perspective on how communication helped build and sustain community life across the New River Valley.

During the business portion of the meeting, members will:

• Vote on the proposed 2026 Board slate

• Receive updates on major initiatives, including plans for the VA250 commemorations

• Hear about a members-only event in development, featuring an exclusive preview of a new exhibit created for Virginia’s 250th anniversary—honoring Giles County’s contribution to the broader story of our Commonwealth and nation

The Museum’s Holiday Open House will be held later that same evening as a separate event, offering an additional opportunity to visit the Museum, enjoy the season, and bring family and friends.
